Non-Destructive Testing

Non-Destructive Testing

NDT is an analysis technique used by us to evaluate the properties of materials, components, structures or systems without causing damage to the original part.

IU INSPECTION’S outstanding track record of research and development, team of highly skilled engineers and technicians, and our wide range of industrial facilities and tools place us in a unique position to solve the NDT problems of member companies. IU INSPECTION carries out hundreds of projects of this nature for our members every year.

Penetration Testing

Penetrant inspection is a non-destructive method of inspection that can detect the manifest at the surface of a part, such as cracks or porosity.

IU INSPECTION provides liquid penetrant inspection (LPI) or dye penetrant testing that are based on the properties of surface wetting and capillary action, which causes a liquid to rise when confined to a small opening.

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic particle inspection provides detection of linear flaws located at or near the surface of ferromagnetic materials.

IU INSPECTION provides the Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) that is a very effective method for location of surface breaking and slight sub-surface defects such as cracking, pores, cold lap, lack of sidewall fusion in welds etc in magnetic materials.

Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic nondestructive testing is a method of characterizing the thickness or internal structure of a test piece through the use of high frequency sound waves.

IU INSPECTION provides ultrasonic testing performed on steel and other metals and alloys, though it can also be used on concrete, wood and composites, albeit with less resolution.

1. Thickness gauge

UI INSPECTION delivers this method of measuring local thickness of a solid element based by the ultrasound wave to return to the surface.

2. Shear wave
IU INSPECTION uses it to identify subsurface anomalies not found directly underneath the transducer itself.

Radiography Testing

IU INSPECTION uses either x-rays or gamma rays to examine the internal structure of manufactured components identifying any flaws or defects.

IU INSPECTION check the material density and thickness differences of the test-part will reduce the penetrating radiation through the interaction processes involving scattering and/or absorption.

1. Radiography with Gamma Ray Ir 192

U INSPECTION’s radioisotope sources are used to perform industrial gamma radiography on materials such as castings, forgings, and weld defects.

2. Radiography with Saferad

Our radiography methods require evacuation of personnel in a wide area to allow two personnel – the radiographers- to perform their work. The SAFERAD method eliminates this problem.

Visual Inspection

Visual testing involves observing a component with the naked eye to evaluate the presence of surface discontinuities.

IU INSPECTION performs Visual inspection can be assisted with optical instruments such as magnifying glasses, boroscopes, mirrors, and other computer equipment for remote viewing.

Hardness Testing

Hardness Testing (HT) is utilized to obtain the hardness value of a material.

IU INSPECTION uses the latest GE Portable Hardness Testing Technology to provide clients the information they require about the materials they are utilizing. IU INSPECTION also employs full time metallurgists within our mechanical testing facility.

PWHT (POST WELD HEAT TREATMENT)

PWHT is an essential part of operating and maintaining assets especially in the petroleum and chemical processing industries.

IU INSPECTION serves as it has many useful applications, the welding process can inadvertently weaken equipment by imparting residual stresses into a material, leading to reduced material properties.

Ferrite Testing

Ferrite testing provides critical data for austenitic stainless steel and duplex materials.

IU INSPECTION Test results are interpreted in accordance with current specifications and/or customer requirements. IU INSPECTION ferrite testing process allows a technical assessment of material corrosion susceptibility, mechanical properties, service suitability, and service reliability.

Spark Testing

Spark test is a simple identification test which is used to observe the color, spacing, quantity, and the quality of sparks

IU INSPECTION Spark testing involves the use of a field portable electronic instrument specifically designed to analyze metals and measure and quantify the chemical content.

Coating Thickness

A coating thickness gauge is used to measure dry film thickness by measuring its impact on the coating process, quality and cost.

Dry film thickness measurements can be used to evaluate a coating’s expected life, the product’s appearance and performance, and ensure compliance with a host of International Standards and IU inspection performs it well.

PMI (Postive Material Identification )

PMI on spot, non-destructive and verifies the compliance of the chemical composition of the materials used.

IU INSPECTION’S PMI analyzers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from mobile to handheld, and allow operators to verify the safety of their equipment, or the exact composition of the materials they make use of with complete confidence.
